Enterhealth CEO David Kniffen Jr. recently spoke with D CEO Healthcare about the state of addiction treatment, the limitations of traditional care models, and what providers can do to support better long-term recovery outcomes.
In the conversation, Kniffen explains why addiction must be treated as a complex condition involving physical health, mental health, trauma, family dynamics, and other contributing factors. He also discusses Enterhealth’s individualized approach, which integrates individual and group therapy with psychiatric care, family therapy, neuropsychological testing, and other evidence-based services.
The interview also explores the challenges created by insurance reimbursement models that can move patients through treatment too quickly, often before they’re prepared for a lower level of care. According to Kniffen, lasting recovery requires sufficient time, a coordinated clinical team, and a treatment plan built around the needs of the individual.
Looking ahead, Kniffen believes addiction care will continue moving toward a more personalized and biologically informed model that considers factors such as sleep, nutrition, metabolism, genetics, and lifestyle alongside therapy and psychiatry.
