Alcohol & Drug Addiction Treatment Program.

Prometa

Prometa is the first of a new class of anti-addiction medicines that target the restoration of the brain’s normal functioning for patients with drug or alcohol addiction. Chronic abuse of alcohol and drugs causes an imbalance between the inhibitory and excitatory activity (GABA and Glutamate, respectively) in the brain, triggering undesirable symptoms and behaviors. Drug and alcohol addiction significantly impair the brain’s normal functioning, and one hypothesis is that restoring the brain’s balance could help a patient who is in recovery to stay sober.

Enterhealth utilizes this form of anti-addiction medicine, along with medical detox, as part of a comprehensive approach to recovery.  Prometa takes a novel approach to the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction, treating dependencies to alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamine or combinations of these drug addictions.

Drug addiction, especially to cocaine and methamphetamine, is extremely destructive to many important neurochemical pathways within the brain. Brain-imaging data have shown that normal brain function may take as long as up to a year and a half to be restored even with complete sobriety after the use of drugs like methamphetamine or cocaine. Disruption of the mesocortical pathway within the limbic system of the brain (GABA neurotransmitters) by addiction to drug stimulants leads to the inability to calm yourself down or rest, as evidenced by the symptoms of anxiety, sleep disruptions, impaired judgment, and cognitive (thought) impairment early in their addiction recovery phase. Anti-addiction medicines are the only way to alleviate some of these symptoms.

A Prometa drug and alcohol addiction treatment program addresses the neurochemical imbalances in the brain caused by alcohol addiction and drug addiction by targeting the changes in brain chemistry and function that play an important role in the physical and behavioral symptoms of substance dependence, including tolerance, addiction withdrawal symptoms, craving and addiction relapse.

A Prometa drug and alcohol addiction treatment program is thought to achieve these results by restoring the normal functioning of your GABA neurotransmitter system, rather quickly. This form of drug and alcohol anti-addiction medication can be described as the integration of a combination of FDA-approved medications administered both orally (by mouth) and intravenously (through your veins), nutritional counseling/support, and behavioral (talking) therapy. Unlike many other addiction treatment programs, the Prometa treatment program effectively integrates critical nutritional educational guidelines, as well as specialized nutritional supplements into the patient’s drug and alcohol addiction recovery program.

The Prometa drug and alcohol addiction treatment program is thought to restore the ability to remain calm, allowing clients in recovery to stay sober and be able to return relatively quickly to normal anxiety and sleep levels, as well as thinking patterns. Among drug and alcohol anti-addiction medicines, the Prometa addiction treatment program can be especially helpful for drug and alcohol addicts with extensive brain damage caused by their addiction.

The Prometa addiction treatment program appears to restore the normal balance of the GABA/Glutamate interaction. Patients using the Prometa addiction treatment program report that after the first 1-4 weeks, they feel calmer, can handle stress more effectively, can concentrate and focus better,as well as having decreased cravings for alcohol and/or drugs.
