Chapter Three – Addiction Triggers
On this page you will work on specific issues related to triggers and cravings. As you work through these resources, remember that triggers are anything that stimulate you to have an urge (craving) to drink alcohol or use drugs. Almost anything can serve as a trigger, many of which may appear to be completely harmless, but the associations that it creates in your mind can greatly increase the likelihood that you’ll start drinking or using again. Some triggers are obvious, but others can be hidden or very difficult to identify. The goal of this chapter in the book and the series of eLearning tools are to help you specifically identify your personal set of triggers and then understand how to avoid them and effectively deal with the cravings that they cause in your brain.
